Mold Can Cause Structural Problems to Your Home

If your property frequently has high levels of moisture in the air, you could be facing problems to your home and your health. High humidity can lead to increase in growth of molds which can be bad for your health. A device called a dehumidifier (or luftbefeuchter in Germany) can help to lower the moisture levels in the air.
However, if you are always runnings a dehumidifier, you should consider checking your home for structural problems. Alternatively, if you are in the process of buying a new home, finding any potential mold problems is important before you choose to buy.
When searching for a new home, you should always pay attention to any smells. Smells are a good sign that there is mold within the home. Even if you can smell bleach, this may be a sign that the current owners are trying to remove mold using the combination of bleach and water.
Most molds will create a musty smell in the house, particularly in and around bathrooms and basements.
A university in America is currently researching into a system which would allow you to look up what the air quality is in that area. Even though this system would only work for outdoor air quality, it does give you an idea of what it’s like in the houses. Generally if the air quality is poor and full of moisture outside, this can often spread into the homes in the area.
Unfortunately, this system is still be tested and it would involve sensors being places in the local area. Alternatively, while you are house hunting, you could get a thermo-hygrometer to monitor the air quality.
If you do have high levels of moisture and your home is common with mold, a dehumidifier is one way to control it. However, if the problem isn’t controlled then the mold spores can spread around the home and cause damage to your property. Resolving issues caused by molds can be costly, and if they are not looked at quickly, they can cause damage to your health.
I did find this strange, as I was researching for this post, I kept find the foreign equivalent words appearing. I find it strange how the Mexican word for dehumidifiers, humidificadores, and the same word in French, humidificateurs, can be so similar whereas the German, luftbefeuchter, is entirely different.
