Being over-weight affected my whole life, I was unable to wear the clothes I wanted to and I often felt guilty after eating certain foods. I was adamant that if only I could lose a couple of stones my confidence would increase and that I would ultimately be a lot happier.</p>
<p>I guess that I had problems with my weight mainly due to comfort eating &#8211; I was quite a depressive person you see due to the fact that I had a stuttering speech impediment.</p>
<p>One day I was talking to a neighbour who was not only very nice but also quite thin. She looked very fit and healthy and I enquired as to how she kept so trim.</p>
<p>This neighbour who is called Gillian seemed quite taken aback and even flattered by my question and went quite coy. She stated that at one point in her life, she had also had a weight problem and had not been happy about it. What she was about to say was quite a shock to me, however would eventually change my life.</p>
<p>She went on to say that wherever she went to at this stage of her life, she would travel to by car.She then decided to purchase a dog and started to take her on quite a few walks each day. In the past Gillian had not wanted to do any form of keep fit however she was now taking her lovely dog on numerous walks each day and enjoying them.</p>
<p>Gillian quickly noticed that not only was she losing weight but that she also felt a lot healthier. It was not long before she was at a weight she was happy with.</p>

But everyone should have their health as one of their top priorities, and making sure that you exercise regularly is an essential part of being healthy.</p>

<p> There is a proliferation of fad diets which never seem to last the test of time and people have trouble sticking to them long term because they are just not realistic.</p>
<p> Any diet plan that requires you to only eat one type of food or cut food groups out completely can be difficult to stick with. This is why fad diets usually lose popularity as people try the next big thing.</p>
<p> Similarly with fitness there is a lot of different opinions. Some people think you should do a lot of cardiovascular work such as jogging or cycling while others think it is a waste of time. There are programs that suggest high intensity workouts while others aim for consistency.</p>
<p> You may be confused by all these opinions but in most cases you need to find something that suits you and stick with it. This means something that you will realistically be able to follow long term and not give up when it gets tough.</p>
<p> If you know that you cannot stand jogging long distances and are likely to give up very soon then you can change the routine to something that will be beneficial to you and that you will benefit from.</p>
<p> A good exercise regime should follow this idea so try to plan the workout around things that you will be certain to do so if this involves going to the gym then you can add this to the plan.</p>
<p> One of the most inspiring things is when it becomes noticeable that you have been dieting and working out. People start to notice and compliment you and it can really spur you on to do good things.</p>
<p> Giving up on a diet is the last thing people want to do but it is easy to do when you see the next fad come along. Avoid these and stick to solid plans that you will not move on from when it becomes to difficult to follow.</p>
